The above treatments are given as examples of typical multi-ingredient Chinese herbal formulae for an acute episode of allergic rhinitis. Patients may receive quite different formulae depending on the main characteristics of their individual pattern. The basic formula for internal administration (Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang) is one of the most well-known Chinese herbal formulae for spleen qi vacuity complicated by liver depresssion qi stagnation. During times of remission where treatment of the root of this condition is required, i.e. spleen vacuity and liver depression, this standard formula is often a very good choice.
